I made a lil map proof-of-concept called demoskeeball...and I think it's okay..but I'd like to have a whole carinval.  So, aside from skeeball, and shooting little duckies with a sniper...

what ideas do you have for TF2 carnival games that may or may not be possible for a burgeoning mapperfaceguy.

i remember back in the day there was this tfc map that was like a carnival, with a bunch of silly rides and stuff... it would be awesome to have a new version of that.
maybe you could have one of those dunk tanks where a guy stands on a platform, and the scout would have to hit a target with his baseball or something. then everyone laughs when that loser falls into the water and dies
teehee ^^

Oh you could do some pretty cool carney stuff with Lua in TF2.

Could you do those games where you have to keep shooting at a target with water (or guns in TF2), or the one where you have to roll the small ball into numbered holes to make a character move forward in a race.

It also shouldn't be too tough to build a ferris wheel or something like that.

OH YEAAHHH OF COURSE!!!

THAT IS A GREAT IDEA

My favorite thing in the carnival has always been the fun houses. :D

We could also make a cool haunted house or something.

Man I think we're taking this way past Grim's scope, lol...

a haunted house would be better...the only thing I know about a fun house is crazy mirrors...and source isn't a big fan of reflective surfaces

I've never been in a fun house that I recall, is there anything else to it?

Yeah the good ones usually have a slew of mechanisms that people have to step through,  like sliding platforms or vertically taught bungee cords or a fun slide or a rotating path you have to step through.  They also sometimes have some light-hearted jump-out surprise events.

There could be other funhouse-like things you could do in a virtual environment.

FOLLOW UP THOUGHT

There is an issue that comes up when you get into making maps like this and that is BANDWIDTH.  When you have a whole bunch of dynamic mini-games in a level, all of the connection clients are constantly being fed data about the state of every single dynamic item involved in all that stuff.  So, you have to budget how many "thingies" you put into a "community" map such as this.

However, I have a lot more experience with this in TFC than I do in TF2... it's possible that the Source Engine does a better job of managing who needs to be updated about what based on the improved line-of-sight calculations it performs.
